How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

Once the guide you used to guide your child is removed, carefully cut the remaining finish over the foot of the new guide with the help of a razor blade to cut it off from the rod blank. This will make the guide's foot easier to remove and prevent any damage. The foot is very sharp, and it could cut or nick fingers.

It is possible to use some force to remove the guide, but be careful not to break or chip the foot. After removing the guide that was previously attached, take out any epoxy or threads left in the area it was anchored. This will help prevent any future problems with the guide.

After removing the guide, test out your replacement by placing it in its permanent location and applying a few rotations of masking tape or another type of guide tubing to secure it in its place. A bifold door may also scrape against the floor as it opens and closes. This can occur after adding carpet or other flooring materials that require the doors to be raised slightly to ensure proper clearance. Removal of the bottom pivot adjustment screw and loosening the top track's mounting screws, and moving the anchor/pivot pin is typically enough to resolve this issue.

A set top roller with new guides could be a low-cost solution to your bifold doors being difficult to operate. They are usually available at the local hardware store in the door section. However they can be ordered online from various vendors. In addition to a new top guide for rollers, you'll require a small bottle of Elmer's wood glue that is sold in the big box stores as well as a squeeze clamp.
